Have Not Grace

Truth or fiction:
now that’s the curdled
milk—the wafting
reek of caramel turned—
the pirate treasure
pilfered ‘neath a mast—
and last, it takes a
hero to fight the page
’til finish and dead,—
to make decisions, wan—
to swallow all the spoil, the
harder spell than ranks
swollen in the charge—
aye, pen unsheathed
and scarred, into the
yes or no, unfurled, ’til
death—for that is finer
history, friends, than
cannons at a light brigade.
